Educational
Programs
Adventure Quest Institute is now offering dog sledding assembly
or classroom programs for public and private schools, home
school association gatherings, youth organizations, and special
events.
These presentations can be tailored to include one or more
of the following topics:
• The
history of dog sledding: past to the present
•
Alaskan history: Gold Rush, 1925 Serum Run
•
Dog sledding in literature
•
Native Alaskan culture
•
Outdoor living skills
•
Equipment building and repair
•
Wilderness science: weather, nutrition, trail conditions…
•
Following your dreams
•
Updates on Team Quest’s training and racing
•
Iditarod: The Last Great Race
The
program includes hands-on exhibits featuring a sled, a training
cart, dog booties, harnesses, cook stove, and other equipment
indispensable to a musher on the trail. A multi-media presentation
showing the team in action is available.
Students will have an opportunity to interact with our lovable
sled dogs. Some of our dogs come from champion Iditarod
kennels. Luna, for instance, was born and raised at Trail
Breaker Kennel, Alaska, at the home of four-time Iditarod
champion, Susan Butcher. Jeff King, a three-time winner
of the Iditarod, bred and raised Lucky at Goose Lake Kennel
near Denali National Park, Alaska. Now Lucky is an enthusiastic
member of Team Quest!
Flo Jo, a floppy-eared lead dog with a tremendous work ethic,
comes from the kennel of Terry Adkins. Terry has run the
Iditarod more times than anyone else except for Joe Redington,
Sr., “the Father of the Iditarod.”
Pricing for programs range from $150.00 for a single classroom
presentation to $500.00 for a full day of classroom or assembly
programs.
